Contemporary Art Gallery BWA SOKÓŁ
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, we invite you to the final day - the finissage - of Jacek Waltoś’s exhibition “Four Colors.”
As part of the Funduszowy Maj program, admission to the exhibition on that day will be completely free. This is a unique opportunity to experience the work of an outstanding artist - both for those who haven’t yet had the chance to see the exhibition and for those who want to visit it again and share the experience with family or friends.
FOUR COLORS: SYMBOLIC REDUCTION
When, during a student plein air workshop in 1960, while painting a landscape, I discovered
the possibility of reducing the multicolored nature to four colors -
the elementary symbols of nature according to Greek thinkers - it seemed
to me that I was acting in accordance with the principles of my professors at the Academy.
One of the tenets of their method was “solving the problem of painting”,
which a painter should set for himself.
My solution did not sit well with the faculty,
but I dedicate this exhibition to the memory of our colorists,
those associated with the Paris Committee (“Kapists”),
whose centennial we recently celebrated.

„Four colors” Jacek Waltoś
Starting March 27, we invite you to the BWA SOKÓŁ Gallery for an exhibition by Jacek Waltoś. This is a unique opportunity to explore the work of the outstanding co-founder of the WPROST group through the lens of his signature method—a radical reduction of colors to the four elements—which is an attempt to capture the “primordial principle” of the world and find a lasting order in an ephemeral reality.
