Wacław Lechowicz - a painter and sculptor driven by passion. From March 2 to 22 the SOKÓŁ FOYER Art Gallery will present an exhibition of works by this artist from Nowy Sącz. We invite you to discover his artistic journey and experience works that are the result of many years of searching for his own unique form of expression.
Wacław Lechowicz
He was born in 1951. After graduating from High School No. 1 in Nowy Sącz, he moved to Kraków, where he began his studies and later worked at the Department of Anthropology at the Academy of Physical Education in Kraków (now the Academy of Physical Culture).
His return to his hometown marked the beginning of many years of artistic development within local institutions such as the Society of Friends of the Fine Arts, the Nowy Sącz Creative Club, and the Railway Workers’ Cultural Center (now the Municipal Cultural Center). He honed his skills under the guidance of renowned artists: Ewa Harsdorf and Franciszek Palka.
In the 1980s, he lived in the United Kingdom, where he participated in the “Art in Action” exhibition in Oxford. For many years, he was also an active participant in gatherings of the artistic community centered around the Mała Galeria in Nowy Sącz. At the age of 65, encouraged by Prof. Andrzej Szarek, he completed his formal education by graduating with a degree in art education from the State Higher Vocational School in Nowy Sącz.
He has been interested in sculpture for several decades. Inspired by folk art, he creates works in wood and clay, and also paints on glass. In his paintings, he draws on the work of Giorgio de Chirico and Kazimir Malevich. He strives to develop his own unique form of expression, depicting situations that are seemingly trivial or extreme - yet always left open-ended and requiring the viewer to fill in the gaps through interpretation.
