The SNOWDROPS exhibition presents works by professors and students of the Department of Art Education and Visual Arts of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts of the Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz, Poland: the degree courses in Graphic Design and Visual Technologies (undergraduate studies) and New Media User-Oriented Design (graduate studies).
Shown are assorted pieces of art by the lecturers from the Department of Art Education and Visual Arts who do not only teach the degree-specific courses in fine arts, graphic design and user experience (UX) design, but are also practitioners of the arts and designers working in various artistic media - both traditional and modern.
The student art on display is a collection of selected projects created under the guidance of academic staff as part of students’ studio coursework.
SNOWDROPS are not only the early flowers whose appearance heralds spring, rebirth, awakening from winter hibernation. SNOWDROPS can also symbolise something that, under the right conditions, germinates, breaks through, grows, inspires to burst out into words... It is part of a cyclical recurrence of taking up the struggle for victory - of art, education, new ideas, for the quality of education, constructive dialogue, and partnership in the master-desciple relationship.
About the Faculty:
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts at the Academy of Applied Sciences (ANS) in Nowy Sącz offers education in two cutting edge disciplines combining art and design, enabling students to aquire the skills and gain qualifications for careers in Graphic Design and UX Design.
The Graphic Design and Visual Technologies course was launched at the ANS in Nowy Sącz in response to market demand for specialists in applied design. Students of the course develop their design skills using professional graphic design software, such as the Adobe apps, and learn how to create functional visual messages for various social and economic actors.
Upon graduating, student of the degree programme in Graphic Design and Visual Technologies (GDiTW) is equipped with a full range of technical and professional competencies in the field of visual technologies and digital media used in contemporary artistic design. The curriculum includes engaging courses in raster and vector graphics, visual communication, editorial graphics, desktop publishing (DTP), infographics, multimedia graphics, studio and artistic photography, basics of programming, computer game creation technologies or short film forms (shorts and clips). Students also receive practical training to master the principles of advanced design.
The Faculty's educational offer has also been expanded with second-level studies in User-Oriented Design for New Media. The programme focuses on UX-design issues, covering two main areas of study: user-oriented design (e.g. graphic interface design, mobile application design, visual advertising design, visual identification and product promotion, interactive media), as well as specialised courses in the field of new media. The degree prepares students to work in modern user-oriented design teams.
The curricula of both fields of study include courses taught in English (optional), in response to the needs of the contemporary labour market, where artist-designers most often work in international design teams, including online.
Classes at the art and design faculties of the Academy of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz (Chair of Art Education and Visual Arts) are conducted in a friendly and creative atmosphere, and the highly specialised academic staff place particular emphasis on the individual approach to each student and his/her competences and skills.
Faculty members from the Department of Art Education and Visual Arts at ANS in Nowy Sącz participating in the exhibition:
- prof. dr hab.Krzysztof Tomalski
