From Monday, January 19, to February 25, 2026, the SOKÓŁ FOYER Art Gallery will feature paintings by Barbara Piękoś - an artist who, with great sensitivity, is able to capture on canvas what is most precious in life.
My exhibition “The Color of the Heart” is, for me, a very intimate story about what I consider to be the most important—and at the same time the most fleeting—aspects of life: relationships, memories, and the tenderness I strive to share with the world. I invite you to explore my personal map of emotions—a map that reflects a deep sensitivity to the beauty of nature and other people.
Two themes that are close to my heart intertwine in my work. The first is portraits of those closest to me. For me, these are not merely studies of faces, but an attempt to capture the spiritual aura and authenticity of another person. As I paint, I ask myself the following questions each time:
What color is this person’s heart? What color is my heart today? What color is the heart I have for others?
The second part of the exhibition consists of still lifes in which I “portray” objects I’ve saved from my childhood. Old toys, mementos, and trinkets become vessels of nostalgia here. Although they are inanimate objects, to me they are still full of life thanks to the emotions I have imbued in them. In these compositions, you will also find my admiration for nature—its harmony and light, which always inspire me.
