vernissage:
29 August 2025, hour 18:00
A combination of the southern temperament with sensitivity to beauty. We invite you to the preview of our next exhibition of realistic drawings by a Spanish artist, Gustav Gálvez Miró, in the foyer of the SOKÓŁ Art Gallery in Nowy Sącz, on Friday, 29th of August, 2025.
Spanish Artist Gustavo Gálvez Miró was born 1975 on the island of Mallorca. From a very early age, he always carried a graphite pencil and some paper with him – and his childhood inclination for drawing became his lifelong passion. Under the tutelage of a prominent painter, Joaquin Torrents Llado, in Palma, he perfected his technique and became inspired to follow his creative calling into a professional career. Meeting and marrying his wife, who comes from the beautiful Polish region of Subcarpathia, he made Poland his new homeland.
Gustavo Miró creates his works in the style of realism, which requires from the artist not only talent, but also precision, perseverance, and undisturbed concentration. Every gesture is strictly controlled, and his work schedule planned out for a lengthy and laborious process. The final effect of his drawings reflects - in an illusionary manner - the reality that surrounds us, and is recognizable owing to all the long hours of completely abstract work, spent on individual ‘atoms’ from which the complete work is composed – line by line. In this respect, the process from which a drawing emerges is similar to meditation, to deep concentration and contemplation.
The theme of Miró’s drawings oscillates between universal and harmonious beauty. Carved with sharp charioscuro, the shape of the body, its muscles, the sunlight reflecting off the fur of some remarkable animals, like horses and bulls, seem to be reminiscences of the artist’s native country. Images of beaches and sea waves likewise echo the Mediterranean landscape which shaped the artist’s identity. His works radiate the warmth of his native island, the restraint and a sense of equilibrium, acquired through years of work on his craft. This art is simultaneously balanced and sensual – it captivates the viewer into wanting to remain in its presence some more.
